Environmental Landscapes - July 2026

A unique and exciting educational opportunity for students and faculty in higher education to join a study tour to Aotearoa New Zealand. 

We have selected the most popular experiences from our Faculty Led tours to include in this program. 

Inspired by the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals, this tour focuses on Sustainability in New Zealand's Environmental Landscapes

Travelling throughout the country for 15 days at a fast pace the following specialist areas, activities and topics will be selected to visit. Accompanied by local specialists the tour will cover a range of the following learning experiences.

  • Terrestrial restoration and ecology at pest-free Rotoroa Island sanctuary (stay overnight) and a day of service learning
  • Eco-sanctuary tours
  • Glowworm Caves
  • Visiting a Māori village and meeting with Elders
  • Marine research and conservation reserves
  • Rain-forest hike to explore ecology and conservation challenges to protect some of the rarest creatures on earth
  • Māori cultural anthropology and the unique history and legacy to protect the environment
  • Environmental policy and role of government
  • Whale watching or albatross encounters
  • Service projects
  • Glaciers, climate change and earthquakes
  • A range of tourism activities including a tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set.

This is an open registration study tour. Participants must be studying or teaching in environmental sciences in higher education.
