Dunedin is New Zealand’s oldest university city, and is known as the centre of learning in New Zealand.


The University of Otago (founded in 1869), New Zealand’s oldest and largest university gives Dunedin its reputation as a centre of learning.

Dunedin offers more than heritage buildings, cafes and a buzzing night life, it has the world’s only mainland albatross colony, Rare yellow-eyed penguins, little Blue penguins and fur seals.

The city has a lot to offer with parks and beautiful gardens like The Dunedin Chinese Garden is traditional and serene, featuring bridges and water features, and was build by Shanghai artisans.

This area offers dramatically varied scenery, from hills covered with dense native forest to a shoreline with rocky bays, long sweeps of sand and unusual geological formations.

Dunedin is home to the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic. It also has many schools of excellent quality and language schools.
